The History

Originally called Our Lady of Mercy Church, becomes Our Lady of Bonsucesso in the early eighteenth century.

It had as the first building, a simple clay chapel, dated 1567, just before the foundation of the Holy House of Mercy (1582).

Rebuilt in 1754 and renovated in the late nineteenth century, it was at the foot of Castle Hill, whose only current memory is the beginning of Ladeira of Mercy that gave access to the hill (located on the right side of the church).

It is integrated into the wide architectural complex of the Holy House of Mercy. To your right is the old Gathering of Orphans of the Holy House, built in 1739, which was meant to support needy orphans and in your left is the old part of the Holy House of Mercy.

During its last renovation, the façade was enriched with a limestone stone gate and a bell gable.
